چکیده

By studying cross correlations in the intensity of light scattered by a fluid sample in different directions at different times, it is possible to measure the dynamic scattering function S(k,t) for the fluid. The multiple scattering contribution to the time-dependent cross correlations is very substantially less than the multiple scattering contribution to S(k,t) as obtained by a conventional singie-detector quasielastic light scattering system.

Role of multiple scattering in cross-correlated light scattering with a single laser beam.

Previous systems for measuring cross-correlated light scattering by small particles suspended in a liquid with multiple-scattering suppression have illuminated the particles with two laser beams. It is shown that multiple-scattering suppression should also occur in cross correlation for a system that employs a single laser beam and two closely spaced detectors with wide fields of view. The sing...

Experimental suppression of multiple scattering : E†ect on dynamic and static scattering data

Combination of dynamic and static light scattering experiments gives important information on structural and dynamic properties of polymer solutions and colloidal suspensions. However, the analysis of light scattering experiments in turbid media is highly complicated due to the presence of multiple scattering. Recently, a one-beam set-up has been proposed and it could be shown that the cross co...

Modulated 3D cross-correlation light scattering: improving turbid sample characterization.

Accurate characterization using static light scattering (SLS) and dynamic light scattering (DLS) methods mandates the measurement and analysis of singly scattered light. In turbid samples, the suppression of multiple scattering is therefore required to obtain meaningful results. One powerful technique for achieving this, known as 3D cross-correlation, uses two simultaneous light scattering expe...

Multiple-scattering suppression by cross correlation.

We describe a new method for characterizing particles in turbid media by cross correlating the scattered intensity fluctuations at two nearby points in the far field. The cross-correlation function selectively emphasizes single scattering over multiple scattering. The usual dynamic light-scattering capability of inferring particle size from decay rate is thus extended to samples that are so tur...

Multiple-scattering suppression in dynamic light scattering based on a digital camera detection scheme.

We introduce a charge-coupled device (CCD) camera-based detection scheme in dynamic light scattering that provides information on the single-scattered autocorrelation function even for fairly turbid samples. It is based on the single focused laser beam geometry combined with the selective cross-correlation analysis of the scattered light intensity. Using a CCD camera as a multispeckle detector,...
